How They Met

Our Love Story

Justin and Shania first met at their local church, Soldotna Bible Chapel. After eight short months of dating, they got engaged, and were married in February 2023. They both love Alaska and can’t imagine living anywhere else.

Justin

Hey, I’m Justin, and photography has been a part of my life for a very long time. As a child, I loved to look through all my dad’s photo albums that were overflowing with images captured by his old Pentax K. The look and feel of those images has influenced my taste tremendously, and in our over-sanitized, digital age, those old photos remind me to love the process, embrace the imperfect, and find joy in the small moments that matter the most.

The first camera I ever owned was a disposable film camera that I took to summer camp one year. I remember the feeling of excitement as I waited for that roll of film to be developed, not knowing if any of the pictures would turn out well. Finally, after what seemed like ages, the film was processed and delivered back to me! Cracking open that orange envelope and laughing at all those wonderful memories will always be a part of who I am as a photographer.

In my later youth, I went through a few different point and shoot digital cameras until receiving a Canon T2i for Christmas. That was the camera that got me shooting more than ever. I took it everywhere, which in turn, made me the designated photographer for every family event. I spent countless hours improving my skills with that camera, and it will always have a special place in my heart; but when it was time for an upgrade, I switched over to the newly-launched Sony mirrorless cameras and never looked back. That said, no matter what camera I’m using, my personal goal in photography is to evoke feelings and preserve memories.

Shania

I’m the other half of the Oleson Photography team. I love being able to capture memories for families and loved ones. As an extra set of eyes on a shoot, I often pay attention to hair that’s a little out of place, the one child that’s not looking, the smile that seems to fade, or the dress that needs to be fluffed. I do this while also capturing the candid moments that often go unnoticed.

Outside the realm of photography, I’m a nurse with the local school district. While photography and nursing seem very different from one another, they complement each other in unexpected ways. As a nurse, I enjoy my job in caring for children and being a helping hand to parents. Just like in nursing, photography allows me to connect with others on a deeper level and channel their stories through my lens. My aim is to assist you in preserving your moments through timeless images that will be cherished for a lifetime.
